1x2/2x2 Polarization Maintaining (PM) Fiber Optic Couplers/Splitters – Fused PER 22dB
The FC Series PM fiber optic coupler uses fused biconical taper technology in a compact package, offering good uniformity, low excess loss, and very low polarization sensitivity for splitting or combining light over a wide wavelength range. Cost depends on polarization extinction ratio grade. It handles up to 1 W at 1550 nm, with lower limits at shorter wavelengths; the HPFC Series supports higher power. Couplers have ~0.2 dB loss per split joint, but combining light causes higher losses — e.g., a 50/50 combiner loses 50% from each beam; for combining, see our Combiner products. A fused fiber coupler transmits light from both polarization axes. To block one polarization axis, our micro-optic coupler provides this functionality.

Switchable Fiber Optical Splitter/Coupler
The Switchable Fiber Optical Splitter in 1×2 format splits an incoming optical signal into two output optical fibers with the capability of switching between two splitting ratios. The initial split ratio should be predefined in design, while the second split ratio will be preset in delivery. When the control signal is low (<0.8V), the splitter sustains an initial ratio. When applying the high control voltage (3~5V), the splitting ratio will be switched from the initial ratio to the secondary one. The device is bidirectional, transmitting light in both directions simultaneously. In the 2×1 format, the input light from two inputs will be split into two outputs in a similar way of the 1×2 format, but the splitting ratio is reversed between the two input lights.
