Couplers, Splitters & Combiners

NxM (N = 1–8, M = 4–32) Single Mode Broadband Splitter Module

The N×M Fiber Couplers/Splitters are fabricated by cascading 2×2 fused fiber couplers in a star or tree architecture, providing low insertion loss, excellent channel-to-channel uniformity, high optical power handling, and high polarization extinction ratio for polarization-maintaining (PM) versions. The design offers industry-leading performance over an exceptionally wide operating wavelength range from 370 to 2400 nm and a broad operating temperature range of −40 °C to +150 °C. Standard and custom port configurations are available to meet specific application requirements. Please note that optical couplers, when used as combiners, inherently introduce losses. For example, combining two signals with a 50:50 coupler results in approximately 50% optical loss at each input. Our produces a family of fiber combiners with minimal excess loss.

Application context

Why this design is used

Application guidance is tied to the configured wavelength, fiber interface and optical-budget fields for this family.

Optical power distribution

NxM (N = 1–8, M = 4–32) Single Mode Broadband Splitter Module: Optical power distribution depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 980, 1060, 1310, 1480, 1550, 2000, 400, 450, 520, 650, 750, 850 wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (SMF-28, PM1550, 50/125) must match the connected components.
