Couplers, Splitters & Combiners

Plastic Fiber Couplers/Splitters

Our PLAC plastic fiber couplers/splitters distribute incoming optical signals across multiple output fibers. These couplers utilize high-performance plastic optical fibers with a diameter of 1.0 mm with a 0.98mm core and 2.2 mm outer diameter, featuring a core made from polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA) resin and fluorinated polymer cladding. The 1×2 coupler efficiently splits light 50:50 over a broad wavelength range in the visible spectrum. Larger 1xN and NxN configurations are created by cascading 1×2 couplers, resulting in approximately 3 dB loss at each junction. Couplers are efficient in splitting light but incur significant losses when combining lights. We offer one of the industry’s most comprehensive selections of fused fiber couplers and splitters, designed for a wide range of application scenarios.

Application context

Why this design is used

Application guidance is tied to the configured wavelength, fiber interface and optical-budget fields for this family.

Optical power distribution

Plastic Fiber Couplers/Splitters: Optical power distribution depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 650nm wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (2.2mm Cable) must match the connected components.

Fiber sensing

Plastic Fiber Couplers/Splitters: Fiber sensing depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 650nm wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (2.2mm Cable) must match the connected components.

Optical interface and fiber
Fiber Cover: 2.2mm Cable · Fiber Length: 0.5m, 0.75m, 1.0m
Specify connector polish and fiber architecture together. FC/PC, FC/APC and SMA interfaces, and single-mode, multimode and polarization-maintaining fibers, impose different return-loss, mode-field and alignment requirements.
Wavelength and loss budget
Test Wavelength: 650nm
Check the Couplers, Splitters & Combiners passband, insertion loss, return loss and power handling at the actual source wavelength; a nominal telecom-band label is not a substitute for the configured range.
