Transmitter/Receiver RF over Fiber Low Noise High SFDR – DC-50GHz

The LRFF series is a family of low-noise analog RF-over-Fiber (RFoF) transmit/receive links designed for long-distance transport of wideband RF signals with minimal degradation. These links offer a high spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR), enabling simultaneous transmission of multiple signals with widely varying power levels while maintaining excellent noise figure (NF) performance. High-SFDR operation reduces the need for heavy front-end signal conditioning, avoiding gain compression issues and simplifying separation of true signals from spurious artifacts. The transmitter uses a narrow-linewidth, high-side-mode-suppression laser coupled with an external LiNbO₃ modulator biased for high linearity, with a built-in RF pre-amplifier to improve NF and link gain. External modulation also supports WDM operation with up to 98 channels.

Application context

Why this design is used

Application guidance is tied to the configured wavelength, fiber interface and optical-budget fields for this family.

Laboratory optical integration

Transmitter/Receiver RF over Fiber Low Noise High SFDR – DC-50GHz: Laboratory optical integration depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 1550 nm, ITU Tunable, 1310 nm, WDM ITU wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (SM28, PM1550) must match the connected components.

Optical interface and fiber
Fiber Type: SM28, PM1550 · Fiber Connector: FC/APC, FC/UPC, SC/APC, SC/UPC, LC/APC, LC/UPC, Special
Specify connector polish and fiber architecture together. FC/PC, FC/APC and SMA interfaces, and single-mode, multimode and polarization-maintaining fibers, impose different return-loss, mode-field and alignment requirements.
Wavelength and loss budget
Wavelength: 1550 nm, ITU Tunable, 1310 nm, WDM ITU
Check the Optical / RF Delay Lines passband, insertion loss, return loss and power handling at the actual source wavelength; a nominal telecom-band label is not a substitute for the configured range.
