Fiber Optical DP-QPSK (I-Q) Modulator 128Gbps

The DPSK series fiber optical modulator supports high-speed modulation up to 128 Gbps using the DP-QPSK (Dual-Polarization Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) transmission format. It integrates four independently driven Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) modulators—each with a low Vπ of 3.5 V, ~30 GHz bandwidth, dedicated DC bias ports, and monitor photodiodes for auto bias control—all in a single package. Two MZI pairs form dual I/Q modulators for the X and Y polarizations. A single-polarization CW laser is input into the device, split into two orthogonal polarization paths, modulated independently, and then recombined into a dual-polarization optical output. The system achieves 128 Gbps by combining a 30 Gbaud symbol rate, QPSK modulation (2 bits per symbol), and dual-polarization, effectively utilizing all four MZIs to deliver a 4× data rate increase over a single-modulator setup.

Application context

Why this design is used

Application guidance is tied to the configured wavelength, fiber interface and optical-budget fields for this family.

Optical modulation

Fiber Optical DP-QPSK (I-Q) Modulator 128Gbps: Optical modulation depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 1550 nm wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (Non, FC/APC) must match the connected components.

Time-resolved measurement

Fiber Optical DP-QPSK (I-Q) Modulator 128Gbps: Time-resolved measurement depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 1550 nm wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (Non, FC/APC) must match the connected components.

Optical interface and fiber
Connector: Non, FC/APC · Input Fiber: PM1550
Specify connector polish and fiber architecture together. FC/PC, FC/APC and SMA interfaces, and single-mode, multimode and polarization-maintaining fibers, impose different return-loss, mode-field and alignment requirements.
Wavelength and loss budget
Wavelength: 1550 nm
Check the Optical Modulators passband, insertion loss, return loss and power handling at the actual source wavelength; a nominal telecom-band label is not a substitute for the configured range.
Control interface
Auto Bias Controller: Non, Yes
Match supply voltage, analog or digital command range, connector pinout and default optical state to the instrument interlock. Confirm the unpowered state explicitly — it decides what happens to the link on a power failure.
