Choose this when…

  • You need cellular-resolution imaging in freely behaving animals with the optics and electronics kept off the head.
  • You want up to 7 regions or animals per system, or Polygon-targeted single-cell optogenetics during imaging.

About the OASIS Fiberscope

The OASIS Fiberscope relays the image from an implanted GRIN lens through a flexible imaging fiber bundle to a benchtop optical unit, so all optics and electronics stay off the animal. The head mount is a mechanical interface only, which keeps it light and allows water-based assays and MRI-compatible options.

Branched imaging fibers record and stimulate up to 7 regions or animals at once. Excitation sources, filter sets, cameras and fiber bundles are interchangeable, and a Polygon pattern illuminator can be added for spatially targeted optogenetics. PolyScan and the PolyEcho I/O module synchronise imaging, stimulation and behaviour.

Mightex offers three formats: the standard Fiberscope; ROAM, which compensates rotation so the imaging fiber can turn 360° with a stable field of view; and a Large FOV version that extends the field to 3.2 mm, for example for cranial-window imaging.

Features

  • Multiple excitation wavelengths, including options for red and far-red sensors; dual excitation ports
  • Compact head mounts (as small as 1.5 mm × 3 mm and about 0.7 g)
  • Record and stimulate up to 7 regions or animals with branched imaging fibers
  • Acquisition at up to 200 Hz with high-speed cameras; compatible with high-sensitivity cameras such as Photometrics and PCO
  • Polygon integration for single-cell optogenetics with simultaneous imaging
  • Imaging fibers up to 3 m long; head mounts contain no electronics
  • Synchronisation through the PolyEcho digital I/O controller and PolyScan software

Applications listed by Mightex

  • Calcium imaging in freely behaving animals
  • Head-fixed subcortical single-cell calcium imaging
  • Multi-region and multi-animal imaging
  • Voltage imaging
  • All-optical interrogation combined with the Polygon
