Polarization & Phase Control

Polarization Beam Combiner/Splitter

Our PB Series Polarization Beam Combiners/Splitters are designed to combine two polarized light signals into a single output or split one light signal into two polarized outputs. We offer both fused and micro-optic platforms, each with distinct advantages. The fused combiners are cost-effective, low-loss, high-power, and compact. In contrast, the micro-optic combiners provide a higher extinction ratio and improved temperature stability and are compatible with all types of fibers, including hollow-core photonic fibers. Regular couplers incur significant losses when combining light. For instance, a 50/50 coupler results in a 50% loss for each beam when combined.

Application context

Why this design is used

Application guidance is tied to the configured wavelength, fiber interface and optical-budget fields for this family.

Laboratory optical integration

Polarization Beam Combiner/Splitter: Laboratory optical integration depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 1060, 1310, 1480, 1550, 780, 850, 980, 650, 550, 490, 350, 1750-2050 wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (SMF-28, HI 1060) must match the connected components.

Optical interface and fiber
Port 1 Fiber Type: SMF-28, HI 1060 · Port 2 Fiber Type: PM1550, PM1310, PM1950, PM980, PM850, PM400, HI 1060
Specify connector polish and fiber architecture together. FC/PC, FC/APC and SMA interfaces, and single-mode, multimode and polarization-maintaining fibers, impose different return-loss, mode-field and alignment requirements.
Wavelength and loss budget
Wavelength: 1060, 1310, 1480, 1550, 780, 850, 980, 650, 550, 490, 350, 1750-2050
Check the Polarization & Phase Control passband, insertion loss, return loss and power handling at the actual source wavelength; a nominal telecom-band label is not a substitute for the configured range.
