Fiber Optical Phase Modulator/Switch - NanoSpeed™

The NS Series fiber optical phase modulator/switch is a device based on a patented electro-optical configuration, featuring low optical loss and wide temperature operation with built-in compensation. The device is a bidirectional two-port equipment in which the input and output ports are interchangeable. The device dynamically controls the optical phase of the transmitting light, meeting the most demanding requirements of continuous operations over 25 years and non-mechanical ultra-high reliability (passed Telcordia and space qualifications). The switch is intrinsically bidirectional and selectable for polarization-independent or polarization-maintain by the fiber type. For high-frequency resonance configuration, the device has an integrated circuit inside that only requires a 5V AC input signal matching the resonance frequency.

Application context

Why this design is used

Application guidance is tied to the configured wavelength, fiber interface and optical-budget fields for this family.

Optical modulation

Fiber Optical Phase Modulator/Switch - NanoSpeed™: Optical modulation depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 1060, 1310, 1550, 1625, 850, Special wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (SMF-28, HI1060, PM1550, PM980, Special) must match the connected components.

Time-resolved measurement

The 1060, 1310, 1550, 1625, 850, Special wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (SMF-28, HI1060, PM1550, PM980, Special) must match the connected components.

System integration

Integration and compatibility

Use these checks to connect Fiber Optical Phase Modulator/Switch - NanoSpeed™ to the surrounding optical, mechanical and control system. Every value shown is taken from this model's own specification record.

Optical interface and fiber
Fiber Type: SMF-28, HI1060, PM1550, PM980, Special · Fiber Cover: 0.9mm tube
Specify connector polish and fiber architecture together. FC/PC, FC/APC and SMA interfaces, and single-mode, multimode and polarization-maintaining fibers, impose different return-loss, mode-field and alignment requirements.
Wavelength and loss budget
Wavelength: 1060, 1310, 1550, 1625, 850, Special
Check the Optical Modulators passband, insertion loss, return loss and power handling at the actual source wavelength; a nominal telecom-band label is not a substitute for the configured range.
