LightBend™ Dual 2x2 Bypass SM Optical Switch

The LB Dual 2×2 Bypass OptoMechanical Fiberoptic switch is an integrated single device with 8 fiber ports. Based on Our patented technologies, the switch is designed especially for protection and restoration applications. The switch is activated by a low voltage pulse between two states, and the latching operation preserves the selected optical path after the drive signal has been removed. The switch has integrated electrical contact-based status sensors. The design significantly reduces moving part position sensitivity, offering unprecedented high stability as well as an unmatched low cost. Electronic driver and circuit design assistance are available for this series of switches. The switch is bidirectional. We offer a tight-bend-fiber version, which reduces the minimum bending radius from the normal 15 mm to 7 mm. This feature enables a smaller overall footprint.

Application context

Why this design is used

Application guidance is tied to the configured wavelength, fiber interface and optical-budget fields for this family.

Optical signal routing

LightBend™ Dual 2x2 Bypass SM Optical Switch: Optical signal routing depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 1260-1620, 1060, C+L, 1310, 1410, 1550, 650, 780, 850, 1310 & 1550 wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (SMF-28, Corning XB, Corning ZBL) must match the connected components.

Automated fiber test

LightBend™ Dual 2x2 Bypass SM Optical Switch: Automated fiber test depends on preserving the optical budget through the complete path. The 1260-1620, 1060, C+L, 1310, 1410, 1550, 650, 780, 850, 1310 & 1550 wavelength specification sets source and detector compatibility. The fiber/interface entry (SMF-28, Corning XB, Corning ZBL) must match the connected components. The Latching Type Single Coil, Non-Latching dynamic specification sets the usable control bandwidth.

Optical interface and fiber
Fiber Type: SMF-28, Corning XB, Corning ZBL · Fiber Cover: Bare fiber, 900um tube
Specify connector polish and fiber architecture together. FC/PC, FC/APC and SMA interfaces, and single-mode, multimode and polarization-maintaining fibers, impose different return-loss, mode-field and alignment requirements.
Wavelength and loss budget
Wavelength: 1260-1620, 1060, C+L, 1310, 1410, 1550, 650, 780, 850, 1310 & 1550
Check the Optical Switches passband, insertion loss, return loss and power handling at the actual source wavelength; a nominal telecom-band label is not a substitute for the configured range.
