Fiber Cladding Power Stripper With Internal Liquid Cooling

Our Fiber Cladding Power Stripper removes unwanted cladding light from a high optical power transmission fiber, which is harmful to the downstream components. This device does not break the fiber, offering continuous core transmission with little loss. The devices have unique internal passive liquid circulation micro-chambers to cool localized hot spots effectively. The devices are designed for aerospace systems with high reliability and power levels exceeding kW. We offer both medium-power compact size and high-power compatible packages, both with internal self-containing liquid cooling. The devices should be mounted in contact with a heat sink, such as a metal frame, to transfer the heat from the device surfaces.

Fiber End Cap

The end-capped fiber increases its power handling by reducing the laser power density to a level below the damage threshold through modification at the fiber end. We have developed a manufacturable fiber fusion process to integrate a coreless end-cap to the end face of optical fibers and a precisely controlled fiber polishing process to control the end cap length and surface quality. This end cap technology, which expands the laser beam inside the fiber, is designed for output termination of high power fiber lasers and fiber amplifiers, but it also involves a pigtail process to produce high power fiber collimators.

Fiber Mode Field Adapters

Standard splice between two asymmetric fiber geometries can lead to high insertion loss and degradation of the beam quality. A mode field adapter overcomes this using an adiabatic taper between the two fibers to gradually expand or compress the mode field to achieve maximum signal transmission and M2 beam quality. Our Mode Field Adapters efficiently expand the mode field of an SM optical fiber or large-mode-area (LMA) fiber to match the LP01 mode of a larger LMA fiber. The PM Mode Field Adapter similarly expands the mode field of a PM optical fiber to match the LP01 mode of a polarization-maintaining LMA (PLMA) fiber while maintaining a high PER. These devices are bidirectional and can also be used in reverse to compress the mode field when the output end is used as an input. We offer standard configurations for most application scenarios.

Our 1kW (CW) Fiber Collimators incorporates advanced technologies of direct fusion to a large beam expanding end cap ensuring safe power density, and a mode stripper that prevents burning the buffer/jacket by removing unwanted back-reflection radiation. These technologies significantly increase the collimator reliability. Our can provide customized beam size for a wide choice of operating wavelength and fiber types.

Optical Fiber End Cap

The fiber end cap increases the beam size as the laser exits the fiber end. It reduces the power density at the interface between fiber and air offering much higher transmitted power from fiber cores in a miniature format. Based on Our beam shaping technology, a high-quality end cap is uniquely formed directly at the fiber tip that transmits uniformly beam spot. We use both fusion splicing and thermal expansion to produce end cap optimized for various applications. Polarization maintains fiber end cap is our specialty. The end cap diameter coreless rod selection is to maximize the out beam diameter. The length selection of the end cap is sufficiently shorter to avoid beam distortion from the edge.
